A Suprema Corte dos EUA lidera o ataque às mulheres da classe trabalhadora

Parades, pickets, demonstrations, marches, rallies, protests of millions of Americans during the war of Vietnam and the struggle for equal civil rights were common. With carefully-planned act of protest, refusing to give up her seat on a bus, NAACP activist Rosa Parks gave new vigor to the civil rights movement in the early 1960s. Black women were among the protesters arrested during a May 1963 civil rights march on Birmingham, Alabama, and were key organizers across the country for the 1963 civil rights March on Washington that featured Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. In 1973, activists organized “Take Back the Night” marches and vigils around the country, which protested sexual assault and other violence against women.

 

Under the massive pressure the U.S Supreme Court, an essential part of the American imperialist state apparatus, ruled in favor of women’s abortion as part of their constitutional rights in Roe v Wade in 1973.

 

This was an important reform but reforms that are not connected to the revolutionary struggle of the working class and its allies sooner or later will come under the attack of the ruling class and be reversed. The struggle for reforms to be really won must be connected to the revolutionary struggle.

 

As Rosa Luxemburg wrote: “At first view the title of this work may be found surprising. Can the Social-Democracy be against reforms? Can we contra pose the social revolution, the transformation of the existing order, our final goal, to social reforms? Certainly not. The daily struggle for reforms, for the amelioration of the condition of the workers within the framework of the existing social order, and for democratic institutions, offers to the Social-Democracy the only means of engaging in the proletarian class war and working in the direction of the final goal – the conquest of political power and the suppression of wage labor. Between social reforms and revolution there exists for the Social Democracy an indissoluble tie. The struggle for reforms is its means; the social revolution, its aim.” [1]

 

“And indeed, this week the SC of the USA struck down Roe v. Wade ending almost fifty years of the constitutionally protected right to abortion. This was done by the majority of the Judges in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that will have immediate impact, as thirteen states previously passed “trigger bans” on abortion that will go into effect within thirty days of the Supreme Court decision overturning Roe. Many recent state laws banning abortions contain no exemptions for pregnancies resulting from rape or incest.

 

Republican legislators and anti-abortion advocates celebrated the decision. The rationale used to overturn Roe could be applied to other due process precedents, specifically mentioning Griswold v. Connecticut, which gave married couples the right to contraception; Lawrence v. Texas, which legalized same-sex sexual activity across the country; and Obergefell v. Hodges, which gave same-sex couples the right to marry.” [2]

 

The White House knew that the Supreme Court intended to crush Roe v. Wade already on March 3^rd and did not do anything to oppose it. On May 03, 2022 in Washington, DC. Democrat Leader McConnell called the leak of the draft Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade lawless and an act of intimidation. President Joe Biden has been bracing for the Supreme Court’s decision on his hands. Now he is calling to vote for the Democrats as the only way to change the decision of the Supreme court. If he wanted, he could use his executive power to build clinics in federal properties to perform the abortion. Instead, the senile President blasted the court’s decision in a televised address from the White House early Friday afternoon, lamenting what he called a “sad day for the court and for the country.” And he said he is directing the Department of Health and Human Services to take steps to defend access to certain medications, such as contraception and mifepristone — one of the pills used to induce a medication abortion.

 

“Ahead of the ruling, Biden had come under pressure from activists and Democratic lawmakers to use the full extent of his executive power to dampen its impacts. But White House officials sought to temper expectations for what the President would be able to do unilaterally to maintain access to abortion for the millions of women living in states where it is now expected to be outlawed” [3]

 

He is calling on the angry Americans taking to the streets to act quietly, peacefully and with respect towards the criminal judges that are going to be responsible for the death of pregnant women using unsafe methods by charlatans.

 

“I call on everyone, no matter how deeply they care about this decision, to keep all protests peaceful – peaceful, peaceful, peaceful,” Biden said. “No intimidation. Violence is never acceptable. Threats and intimidation are not speech. We must stand against violence in any form, regardless of your rationale” [4]

 

The truth is that Biden has at various points in his long career, shied away from a full embrace of abortion rights. He rarely uses the word “abortion” itself — an absence his aides downplay but that advocates say is still symbolic.

 

“The Democratic Party has not had any substantial response to the recent attacks on Roe. Their statements and brief denouncements of these egregious abortion bans and restrictions have been toothless and weak, hardly even mentioning abortion services the majority of the time,” said Crystal*, an abortion care worker in Pennsylvania. “The only credit I will give to any Democrats are those who advanced legal abortion protections in their states, such as in Colorado. However, as these actions do not wholly address the loss of autonomy and access in vast regions of the United States, they are entirely inadequate” [5]

 

Biden understands that the US has entered a deep economic crisis that will throw out many workers from their employment. He wants to see that the first mass victims of the capitalists he serves will be women.

 

It will be a huge mistake to vote for either the Republicans or the Democrats both are the class enemy of the working women, men and their allies. This is the time to build a worker’s party fighting to form a workers government committed to the working women and men.

 

Eugene Debs, in 1920 ran from prison “federal prisoner 9653”, for opposing the first imperialist world war for the office of President of the United States as a socialist enemy of the tween parties of the bandit capitalists. He addressed himself to the women workers.

 

The 1920 “To the Woman Voter” campaign leaflet seeks to establish Debs’s long time commitment to women’s rights. In this it is on solid historical ground. Throughout his life and in his varied political careers, Debs always spoke and acted in support of bringing full equality into the lives of women. His support of votes for women, equal pay in the workplace, a stance against the criminalization of prostitution, all demonstrate again Debs’s vision and, it should be added, a willingness to suffer for his socialist views unlike the pretender Sanders a liberal who spreads illusion in the Democrats, a social imperialist party. Two days ago, he tweeted: “Overturning Roe v. Wade and denying women the right to control their own bodies is an outrage and in defiance of what the American people want. Democrats must now end the filibuster in the Senate, codify Roe v. Wade, and once again make abortion legal and safe“

 

“Debs was aided in political work by a neighbor and friend, the pioneer woman activist journalist, Ida Husted Harper. When Debs served as editor of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen’s Magazine, he invited Harper to conduct a “Ladies Department” column. For nearly twelve years, 1883-1894, Harper peppered the Magazine with material crafted specifically for lodge members’ wives, mothers, and daughters. She applied her feminist consciousness to subjects as wide ranging as the efficient organization of housework to the value of reading newspapers rather than novels. She got personal in her discussions of family size and indignant in regard to the treatment of women who chose not to marry. And many columns encouraged women to press for financial independence, improve public education, and work for the establishment of libraries. Needless to say, support for woman suffrage was aired regularly. Among Debs’s specific writings on women and women’s rights which have been anthologized are: “Fantine In Our Day” and “Woman–Comrade and Equal.” These are available in Arthur Schlesinger, Jr (ed.), Writings and Speeches of Eugene V. Debs (1948)” [6]

Passeatas, piquetes, manifestações, marchas, comícios, protestos de milhões de americanos durante a guerra do Vietnã e a luta por direitos civis iguais eram comuns. Com um ato de protesto cuidadosamente planejado, recusando-se a ceder seu lugar em um ônibus, a ativista da NAACP Rosa Parks deu novo vigor ao movimento de direitos civis no início dos anos 60. Mulheres negras estavam entre as manifestantes presas durante uma marcha pelos direitos civis em maio de 1963 em Birmingham, Alabama, e foram organizadoras chave em todo o país para a marcha pelos direitos civis de 1963 em Washington, que apresentou o discurso "Eu tenho um sonho" do Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Em 1973, ativistas organizaram marchas e vigílias "Take Back the Night" por todo o país, que protestaram contra as agressões sexuais e outras violências contra as mulheres.

Esta foi uma reforma importante, mas as reformas que não estão ligadas à luta revolucionária da classe trabalhadora e seus aliados, mais cedo ou mais tarde, estarão sob o ataque da classe dominante e serão revertidas. A luta para que as reformas sejam realmente vencidas deve estar ligada à luta revolucionária.

 

Como escreveu Rosa Luxemburgo: "À primeira vista o título desta obra pode ser considerado surpreendente". A social-democracia pode ser contra as reformas? Podemos contrapor a revolução social, a transformação da ordem existente, nosso objetivo final, às reformas sociais? Certamente que não. A luta diária pelas reformas, pela melhoria da condição dos trabalhadores no âmbito da ordem social existente, e pelas instituições democráticas, oferece à Social-Democracia o único meio de engajar-se na guerra de classes proletária e trabalhar na direção do objetivo final - a conquista do poder político e a supressão do trabalho assalariado. Entre reformas sociais e revolução, existe para a social-democracia um laço indissolúvel. A luta pelas reformas é seu meio; a revolução social, seu objetivo". [1]

 

"E de fato, esta semana a Suprema Corte dos EUA derrubou a decisão Roe versus Wade pondo fim a quase cinquenta anos do direito constitucionalmente protegido ao aborto. Isto foi feito pela maioria dos juízes no processo Dobbs versus Jackson Women's Health Organization que terá impacto imediato, já que treze estados já aprovaram anteriormente "proibições de gatilho" ao aborto que entrarão em vigor dentro de trinta dias após a decisão da Suprema Corte derrubando Roe versus Wade. Muitas leis estaduais recentes que proíbem o aborto não contêm isenções para gravidezes resultantes de estupro ou incesto.

 

Os legisladores republicanos e os defensores do aborto celebraram a decisão. A lógica usada para derrubar Roe versus Wade poderia ser aplicada a outros processos precedentes, mencionando especificamente Griswold versus Connecticut, que deu aos casais legalmente casados o direito à contracepção; Lawrence versus Texas, que legalizou a atividade sexual do mesmo sexo em todo o país; e Obergefell versus Hodges, que deu aos casais do mesmo sexo o direito de se casarem.

 

A Casa Branca sabia que a Suprema Corte pretendia esmagar Roe versus Wade já em 3 de março e não fez nada para se opor a ela. Em 03 de maio de 2022, em Washington, DC. O líder democrata McConnell chamou o vazamento da minuta da decisão da Suprema Corte que derrubou Roe versus Wade ilegal e um ato de intimidação. O Presidente Joe Biden vinha se preparando para a decisão da Suprema Corte em suas mãos. Agora ele está chamando para votar nos Democratas como a única maneira de mudar a decisão da Suprema Corte. Se ele quisesse, poderia usar seu poder executivo para construir clínicas em propriedades federais para realizar o aborto. Em vez disso, o Presidente senil criticou a decisão da corte em um discurso televisionado da Casa Branca no início da tarde de sexta-feira, lamentando o que ele chamou de "dia triste para a corte e para o país". E ele disse que está orientando o Departamento de Saúde e Serviços Humanos a tomar medidas para defender o acesso a certos medicamentos, tais como contracepção e mifepristone - uma das pílulas usadas para induzir um aborto medicamentoso.

 

"À frente da decisão, Biden havia sido pressionado por ativistas e legisladores democratas a usar toda a extensão de seu poder executivo para amortecer seus impactos. Mas os funcionários da Casa Branca procuraram amenizar as expectativas do que o Presidente poderia fazer unilateralmente para manter o acesso ao aborto para os milhões de mulheres que vivem em estados onde agora se espera que seja criminalizado" [3].

 

Ele está chamando os americanos furiosos que saem às ruas para agirem de forma silenciosa, pacífica e com respeito aos juízes criminosos que serão responsáveis pela morte de mulheres grávidas que partirão a fazer abortos por métodos inseguros e por charlatães.

 

"Convido a todos, não importa o quanto se preocupem com esta decisão, a manter todos os protestos pacíficos - pacíficos, pacíficos, pacíficos", disse Biden. "Sem intimidação". A violência nunca é aceitável. Ameaças e intimidações não são discurso. Devemos nos posicionar contra a violência em qualquer forma, independentemente de sua razão de ser" [4].

 

A verdade é que Biden, em vários momentos de sua longa carreira, se afastou de um abraço pleno do direito ao aborto. Ele raramente usa a própria palavra "aborto" - uma ausência que seus auxiliares minimizam, mas que os defensores dizem ser ainda simbólica.

 

"O Partido Democrata não teve nenhuma resposta substancial aos recentes ataques contra Roe versus Wade. Suas declarações e breves denúncias sobre essas proibições e restrições ao aborto têm sido vacilantes e fracas, quase nem mencionando os serviços de aborto na maioria das vezes", disse Crystal*, uma profissional de atendimento ao aborto na Pensilvânia. "O único crédito que eu darei a qualquer democrata é àqueles que avançaram na proteção legal do aborto em seus estados, como no Colorado". Entretanto, como estas ações não abordam totalmente a perda de autonomia e acesso em vastas regiões dos Estados Unidos, elas são totalmente inadequadas" [5].

 

Biden entende que os EUA entraram em uma profunda crise econômica que expulsará muitos trabalhadores de seu emprego. Ele quer ver que as primeiras vítimas em massa dos capitalistas a que ele serve serão as mulheres.

 

Será um grande erro votar tanto nos republicanos quanto nos democratas, ambos são inimigos de classe das mulheres trabalhadoras, dos homens e de seus aliados. Este é o momento de construir um partido de trabalhadores lutando para formar um governo operário comprometido com as mulheres e os homens trabalhadores.

 

Por se opor à primeira guerra mundial imperialista, Eugene Debs, em 1920 concorreu direto da prisão "prisioneiro federal 9653", ao cargo de Presidente dos Estados Unidos como inimigo socialista daqueles partidos gêmeros capitalistas bandidos. Ele se dirigiu às mulheres trabalhadoras.

 

O folheto da campanha "À Mulher Eleitora" de 1920 procurou estabelecer o compromisso de longa data da Debs com os direitos da mulher. Nele, ele se baseia em sólidos fundamentos históricos. Ao longo de sua vida e em suas variadas carreiras políticas Debs sempre falou e agiu em apoio à plena igualdade na vida das mulheres. Seu apoio aos votos das mulheres, a igualdade de remuneração no local de trabalho, uma postura contra a criminalização da prostituição, tudo isso demonstra novamente a visão da Debs e, acrescente-se, a disposição de sofrer por suas visões socialistas, ao contrário do fingidor Sanders, um liberal que espalha ilusão nos democratas, um partido social imperialista. Há dois dias, ele tuitou: "Derrubar Roe Roe versus Wade e negar às mulheres o direito de controlar seu próprio corpo é um ultraje e um desafio ao que o povo americano deseja". Os democratas devem agora acabar com a obstrução no Senado, recompor Roe versus Wade, e mais uma vez tornar o aborto legal e seguro".

 

"Debs foi auxiliado no trabalho político por uma vizinha e amiga, a jornalista ativista pioneira, Ida Husted Harper. Quando Debs serviu como editor da revista Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen's Magazine, ele convidou Harper para conduzir uma coluna "Ladies Department". Durante quase doze anos, entre 1883-1894, Harper pimentou a Revista com material elaborado especificamente para as esposas, mães e filhas dos membros localizadas nos albergues. Ela aplicou sua consciência feminista a assuntos tão amplos quanto a organização eficiente do trabalho doméstico ao valor da leitura de jornais e não de romances. Ela se tornou pessoal em suas discussões sobre o tamanho da família e indignada com relação ao tratamento dado às mulheres que optaram por não se casar. E muitos artigos encorajaram as mulheres a pressionar pela independência financeira, melhorar a educação pública e trabalhar para a criação de bibliotecas. Não é preciso dizer que o apoio ao sufrágio da mulher foi transmitido regularmente. Entre os escritos específicos de Debs sobre as mulheres e os direitos das mulheres que foram catalogados estão: "Fantine In Our Day" e "Woman-Comrade and Equal".
