Statement by Spalakh (RCIT Section in the Ukraine), 6 June 2024

Preface of the Editors: Below we publish a new statement by our comrades in the Ukraine. The RCIT fully supports the call for freedom of the socialist activist Bohdan Syrotyuk!

The worse things go at the front, the more the government takes on repression of all those who do not agree with it. Today, thousands of criminal articles are introduced on the grounds of treason, collaborationism, and so on. However, this is just a wrapper designed to scare the public away from protecting anyone who is allegedly associated with the Russian enemy. The war serves as a good excuse to get rid of numerous oppositional activists against the government.

Under the same article of treason, Bohdan Syrotyuk was also unjustly detained by the SBU on April 25 (link to the news). He is a well-known left-wing activist of the Mykolaiv region from the organization of the Young Guard of Bolsheviks-Leninists (associated with the WSWS). He defended the line of his international - criticism and non-support of both Ukrainian and Russian authorities, which were recognized as proxies of the US and China, respectively.

Surely, we do not agree with his fanciful political positions. First of all, we do not consider the parties to the Russian-Ukrainian war as proxies (see our position in more detail), because Ukraine is waging a war of national liberation against the background of the inter-imperialist confrontation between the Russian Federation and NATO. Among others, there is a fiction about the involvement of NATO and the GUR in the terrorist attack in Crocus (Moscow), because in fact terrorists from ISIS were involved there. Such ridiculous statements are exactly what got him under the article. But we focus on the injustice for which he was convicted: for verbal criticism of the authorities and opposition from the "left". For the same reason, repressions can affect a wide range of left activists, including Spalakh. His usual telegram correspondence with comrades from Russia was passed off as "communication with the Russian special services", which is an unacceptable accusation.

Bohdan Syrotyuk was chosen as a target for the SBU because he was almost the only left-wing activist in his town of Pervomaisk. He was a Komsomol member there for a long time and a former member of the Communist Party of Ukraine, and therefore had an "unclean record" for repressive bodies actively engaged in the so-called “decommunization”. In this way, they want to condemn him not for treason and not for connection with the Russian special services, that's just a cover, but for his consistent position of criticizing the Ukrainian government, which is unacceptable in a country that supposedly defend freedom of speech, as the Ukrainian "liberal" government claims, but in fact is ready to arrest people solely for their words.

Bohdan faces up to 15 years in prison. Given his own weak health and the dependence of his grandmother on his help, this is an inhumane sentence equivalent to death.

We call for solidarity from all progressive forces of Ukraine in the fight against repression, irrespective of all political differences!

Чим гірше йдуть справи на фронті, тим більше влада береться за репресії всіх не згідних з нею. Сьогодні тисячі кримінальних статей присуждуються по мотивах державної зради, колабораціонізму і так далі. Однак це лишень обгортка, покликана відлякувати громадськість від захисту будь-кого, хто ніби то пов'язаний з російським ворогом. Війна служить хорошим приводом позбутися численної опозиції владі.

Під такою ж статею про держзраду пройшов несправедливо і Богдан Сиротюк, був затриманий СБУ 25 квітня (посилання на новину). Він - відомий лівий активіст Миколаївської області з організації Молодої Гвардії Більшовиків-Ленінців секції WSWS. Він відстоював лінію свого інтернаціоналу - критику та непідтримку як української, так і російської влади, які визнавалися проксі США та Китаю відповідно.

І хоч ми не згідні з його політичними позиціями, від яких віє маячнею. В першу чергу не вважаємо сторони російсько-української війни як проксі (детальніше ознайомитися з нашою позицією), бо Україна веде національно-визвольну війну на фоні міжімперіалістичного протистояння РФ з НАТО. Серед інших вигадка про причетність НАТО та ГУР до теракту в Крокусі, адже насправді там задіяні терористи з ІДІЛ. Подібні безглузді заяви якраз таки і підставили його під статтю. Але ми акцентуємо увагу саме на несправедливості по якій засудили його: за критику влади на словах і опозицію "зліва". Бо по тій же причині репресії можуть торкатися широкого кола лівих активістів, в тому числі і Спалаху. Його звичайні переписки по телеграмі з товаришами з Росії видали за ніби-то "зв'язок з російськими спецслужбами", що є неприпустимим натягуванням сови на глобус.

Богдан Сиротюк був вибраний ціллю для СБУ, бо був мало не єдиним лівим активістом в своєму місті Первомайську. Він там був тривалий час комсомольцем та колишнім членом КПУ, а тому мав "нечисте досьє" для репресивних органів, що активно займаються декомунізацією. Таким чином його бажають засудити не за державну зраду і не зв'язок з російськими спецслужбами, то всього лиш обгортка, а за його послідовну позицію критики української влади, що не припустимо в країні, яка буцім то відстоює свободу слова, як те заявляє українська "ліберальна" влада, але готова судити людей виключно за слова.

Богдану грозить цілих 15 років позбавлення волі. Враховуючи його слабке здоров'я і залежність від його допомоги бабусі - це антигуманний вирок рівнозначний смерті.

Ми закликаємо до солідарності всі прогресивні сили України в боротьбі проти репресій, попри всякі розбіжності!
