Trump y Netanyahu se encaminan hacia una guerra contra Irán

There are strong indications that Trump and Netanyahu are heading towards war against Iran. In the case of Israel this is hardly surprising since it has always considered Iran as a key strategic enemy. Since the revolution in 1979, Iran’s foreign policy and regional prestige has been closely linked with propagandistic and also some practical support for the Palestinian resistance. Teheran’s nuclear program has enabled it to build a bomb in short time if it chooses to do so.

 

Until now, Israel is the only power in the Middle East which possess nuclear weapons (according to the Swedish SIPRI institute, it has up to 90 nuclear warheads). If Iran could also build such bombs, Israel would lose its military domination in the region. This is a highly urgent issue since, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iran’s stockpile of 60% enriched uranium is enough for six nuclear bombs if enriched to 90% which it could do, it is said, within a short period.

 

Furthermore, Netanyahu’s ability to stay in power and to avoid imprisonment (because of his corruption cases) is closely linked to keeping Israel in a state of forever war. Hence, there is a combination of, on one hand, the strategic interests of the Zionist settler state to expand its territory and to destroy all opponents and, on the other hand, the personal interest of “King Bibi” to stay in power rather than in jail. This is certainly a strong driving force.

 

However, Israel alone can not attack Iran respectively, if it would do so it would be a highly risk adventure as Iran would rain down thousands of missiles against the Apartheid state in retaliation. To avoid annihilation, Israel depends on military support by U.S. imperialism. While Washington has repeatedly threatened Iran with war, it has refrained from such actions until now.

 

U.S. imperialism has been in conflict with Iran since 1979 and Trump, during his first Presidential period in 2018, withdrew from the “Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action”, usually called the "Iran nuclear deal". However, there have been various indications that the second Trump Administration would prefer to massively reduce its military forces from the Middle East. As we have shown somewhere else, the U.S. is no longer the global hegemon but rather a Great Power in decline. Therefore, Washington is forced to reduce its global engagements – an important reason for Trumps rapprochement with Putin – so that it can focus on confronting its most important imperialist rival, China. [1]

 

 

 

Demand for capitulation

 

 

 

Nevertheless, in the last weeks the orange man made several decisions which indicate that Washington is again on the warpath against Iran. He sent a letter to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei which demands negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program and includes a two-month deadline. According to Trump's national security adviser Mike Waltz, Iran needs to "hand over and give up" all elements of its nuclear program, including missiles, weaponization and enrichment of uranium, "or they can face a whole series of other consequences." As usual, Trump combines this with all kinds of bombastic threats: "We can't let them have a nuclear weapon. Something is going to happen very soon. I would rather have a peace deal than the other option, but the other option will solve the problem." He added that the U.S. is "down to the final moments" with Iran. [2]

 

Trump's offer to negotiate – with such conditions and within such a short period – is effectively the demand for capitulation. Khamenei has already repeatedly explicitly rejected negotiations with the United States given Washington’s current ”maximum pressure” campaign. Hence, as the pro-US/Israel Institute for the Study of War correctly notes, “Iran is very unlikely to agree to a new deal on a two-month timetable.” [3]

 

Another strong indication that Washington is on the warpath against Iran is the massive aerial bombarding campaign against Yemen which it started a few days ago. This attack is explicitly designed as a long-term campaign which would continue until Ansar Allah ends all maritime attacks against Israel-linked ships. Such U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth declared, “This isn’t a one-night thing. This will continue until you say, ‘We’re done shooting at ships. We’re done shooting at assets.’” [4] Furthermore, the Trump Administration claimed that Iran is linked to Ansar Allah and that the U.S. Navy would also attack Iranian interests in Yemen and the Red Sea.

 

For all these reasons, there exists a strong possibility for a military attack by the U.S. and/or Israel against Iran within the next months. True, given the nature of the crazy clown everything is possible, and he might make another U-turn and declare his “love” for Iran. However, in the end history is determined by strategic interests of classes and not the whims of a deranged President.

 

 

 

Contradictory strategic interests

 

 

 

So, what are their strategic interests? In the case of Israel, things are pretty clear. As mentioned above, both for the Zionist settler state as well as for Netanyahu it is an “all-or-nothing” situation.

 

For the U.S., things are more complicated. On one hand, it would like to withdraw from the Middle East. Trump has already instructed the Pentagon to elaborate plans for the withdrawal of its troops from Syria. For the same reason, Washington has advocated for a long time to push more Arab states – in particular Saudi Arabia – to “normalise” relations with the Zionist terror state.

 

However, at the same time, America’s ruling class is closely linked with Israel since many decades. Leading officials of the Trump Administration, including the President himself, have publicly stated their support with the Zionist state, its expansion plans and its desire to expel the Palestinian population. (Remember Trump’s obscene phantasies of expelling the Palestinians from Gaza so that he can transform the enclave into “the Riviera of the Middle East” for rich people!) This makes a “normalisation” of the Arab regimes with Israel very difficult, not because their leaders would care about the Palestinian people but because they fear the outrage and revolt of their population in such a case.

 

If the U.S. and/or Israel declare war against Iran, things could easily get out of control. In such a case, Iran could attack U.S. military bases in the region and stop the maritime trade in the Strait of Hormuz. Such a development would have devastating consequences for the U.S. as well as for the capitalist world economy since the Strait accounts for nearly 30% of world oil trade. It is for this reason that most Arab regimes urge the U.S. to refrain from war against Iran.

 

It is not only such contradictory interests of U.S. imperialism which could force the Trump Administration to reconsider its war plans against Iran. Other factors are the unforeseeable dynamic of the political turmoil in Israel which could result in the downfall of “King Bibi” and the coming to power of a new government which might focus more on solving its domestic crisis than on waging one war after the other. Furthermore, the heroic resistance of the Palestinian people and the unresolved situation of the hostages as well as the reaction of the Arab world to Israel’s expansionism – all this could result in new developments which might influence America’s plans for the Middle East.

 

 

 

Socialist tactics

 

 

 

As the Revolutionary Communist International Tendency (RCIT) has repeatedly explained, in the case of a war between the U.S. and/or Israel against Iran, socialists must not remain neutral. They must take the side of Iran and call for the defeat of the imperialists.

 

Likewise, we reject Israel’s demand to remain the sole nuclear power in the Middle East. Hence, we defend Iran’s right to build nuclear weapons so that it can deter the Zionist and American aggression.

 

We do so not because of any political sympathy for the Mullah regime in Teheran. This a reactionary, capitalist dictatorship which oppresses the workers, women and national minorities. In addition, it did also help the tyranny of Assad to slaughter the Syrian people. The RCIT has therefore always supported the mass protests in Iran as well as the liberation struggle of the Syrian people against Assad and his Russian and Persian masters. For all these reasons we lend no political support for the Mullah regime – we only support their military activities in the Middle East as far as they are directed against Israel and the Western imperialists. Likewise, we continue to support the resistance of the popular masses in Iran. [5]

 

Under the current conditions, a military victory for the U.S. and Israel would strengthen their domination of the Middle East. It would spur the Zionist aggression against the Palestinian people, against Syria, against Lebanon, etc. On the other hand, if the U.S. and Israel fail in their war campaign against Iran, it would weaken these imperialist enemies, provoke domestic crises in these countries and inspire the popular resistance against the Zionist invaders.

 

For the same reason, the RCIT unconditionally sides with the struggle of Ansar Allah (often called the Houthis) against the imperialists without lending political support to their leadership. ^[6]

 

Finally, we reiterate our ongoing support for the heroic Palestinian resistance in the face of the renewed genocidal war in Gaza. [7] We call for a popular boycott campaign against Israel and its supporters. Down with the Zionist settler state! For a free and red Palestine from the River to the Sea! [8]

Existen fuertes indicios de que Trump y Netanyahu se encaminan hacia una guerra contra Irán. En el caso de Israel, esto no sorprende, ya que siempre ha considerado a Irán un enemigo estratégico clave. Desde la revolución de 1979, la política exterior y el prestigio regional de Irán han estado estrechamente vinculados a la propaganda y también a cierto apoyo práctico a la resistencia palestina. El programa nuclear de Teherán le ha permitido construir una bomba en poco tiempo si así lo desea.

 

Hasta ahora, Israel es la única potencia en Oriente Medio que posee armas nucleares (según el instituto sueco SIPRI, posee hasta 90 ojivas nucleares). Si Irán también pudiera construir tales bombas, Israel perdería su dominio militar en la región. Este es un asunto de suma urgencia, ya que, según el Organismo Internacional de Energía Atómica, las reservas iraníes de uranio enriquecido al 60% son suficientes para fabricar seis bombas nucleares si se enriquecen al 90%, lo que, según se afirma, podría lograr en poco tiempo.

 

Además, la capacidad de Netanyahu para mantenerse en el poder y evitar su encarcelamiento (debido a sus casos de corrupción) está estrechamente vinculada a mantener a Israel en un estado de guerra permanente. Por lo tanto, existe una combinación, por un lado, de los intereses estratégicos del estado colono sionista de expandir su territorio y destruir a todos sus oponentes y, por otro, el interés personal del "Rey Bibi" de mantenerse en el poder en lugar de ir a la cárcel. Este es sin duda un poderoso factor impulsor.

 

Sin embargo, Israel por sí solo no puede atacar a Irán; si lo hiciera, sería una aventura muy arriesgada, ya que Irán lanzaría miles de misiles contra el estado del apartheid en represalia. Para evitar la aniquilación, Israel depende del apoyo militar del imperialismo estadounidense. Si bien Washington ha amenazado repetidamente a Irán con la guerra, hasta ahora se ha abstenido de tales acciones.

 

El imperialismo estadounidense ha estado en conflicto con Irán desde 1979 y Trump, durante su primer mandato presidencial en 2018, se retiró del "Plan de Acción Integral Conjunto", comúnmente conocido como el "acuerdo nuclear con Irán". Sin embargo, ha habido varios indicios de que la segunda administración Trump preferiría reducir drásticamente sus fuerzas militares en Oriente Medio. Como hemos demostrado en otro lugar, Estados Unidos ya no es la potencia hegemónica mundial, sino una gran potencia en declive. Por lo tanto, Washington se ve obligado a reducir sus compromisos globales —una razón importante para el acercamiento de Trump a Putin— para poder centrarse en confrontar a su principal rival imperialista, China. ^[1]

 

 

 

Exigencia de capitulación

 

 

 

Sin embargo, en las últimas semanas, el hombre naranja tomó varias decisiones que indican que Washington está de nuevo en pie de guerra contra Irán. Envió una carta al líder supremo iraní, Alí Jamenei, en la que exige negociaciones sobre el programa nuclear iraní e incluye un plazo de dos meses. Según el asesor de seguridad nacional de Trump, Mike Waltz, Irán debe "entregar y renunciar" a todos los elementos de su programa nuclear, incluidos los misiles, la fabricación de armas y el enriquecimiento de uranio, "o podría enfrentarse a toda una serie de consecuencias". Como de costumbre, Trump combina esto con todo tipo de amenazas rimbombantes: "No podemos permitir que tengan un arma nuclear. Algo va a suceder muy pronto. Preferiría un acuerdo de paz a la otra opción, pero la otra opción resolverá el problema". Añadió que Estados Unidos está "en los últimos momentos" con Irán. ^[2]

 

La oferta de Trump de negociar, con tales condiciones y en tan poco tiempo, es en realidad una exigencia de capitulación. Jamenei ya ha rechazado explícitamente en repetidas ocasiones las negociaciones con Estados Unidos, dada la actual campaña de "máxima presión" de Washington. Por lo tanto, como señala correctamente el Instituto para el Estudio de la Guerra, proestadounidense e israelí, “es muy improbable que Irán acepte un nuevo acuerdo con un plazo de dos meses”. ^[3]

 

Otro claro indicio de que Washington está en pie de guerra contra Irán es la masiva campaña de bombardeos aéreos contra Yemen, iniciada hace unos días. Este ataque está diseñado explícitamente como una campaña a largo plazo que continuará hasta que Ansar Allah ponga fin a todos los ataques marítimos contra buques vinculados a Israel. El secretario de Defensa estadounidense, Pete Hegseth, declaró: “Esto no es cosa de una noche. Continuará hasta que digan: ‘Ya basta de disparar a los barcos. Ya basta de disparar a los activos’”. ^[4] Además, la administración Trump afirmó que Irán está vinculado a Ansar Allah y que la Armada estadounidense también atacaría intereses iraníes en Yemen y el Mar Rojo.

 

Por todas estas razones, existe una gran posibilidad de un ataque militar por parte de Estados Unidos o Israel contra Irán en los próximos meses. Es cierto que, dada la naturaleza del payaso loco, todo es posible, y podría dar otro giro de 180 grados y declarar su "amor" por Irán. Sin embargo, al final, la historia la determinan los intereses estratégicos de las clases sociales y no los caprichos de un presidente desquiciado.

 

 

 

Intereses estratégicos contradictorios

 

 

 

Entonces, ¿cuáles son sus intereses estratégicos? En el caso de Israel, la situación es bastante clara. Como se mencionó anteriormente, tanto para el estado colono sionista como para Netanyahu, se trata de una situación de "todo o nada".

 

Para Estados Unidos, la situación es más compleja. Por un lado, desea retirarse de Oriente Medio. Trump ya ha ordenado al Pentágono que elabore planes para la retirada de sus tropas de Siria. Por la misma razón, Washington lleva mucho tiempo abogando por presionar a más estados árabes, en particular a Arabia Saudí, para que "normalicen" sus relaciones con el estado terrorista sionista.

 

Sin embargo, al mismo tiempo, la clase dirigente estadounidense mantiene estrechos vínculos con Israel desde hace décadas. Altos funcionarios de la administración Trump, incluido el propio presidente, han declarado públicamente su apoyo al estado sionista, sus planes de expansión y su deseo de expulsar a la población palestina. (¡Recuerden las obscenas fantasías de Trump de expulsar a los palestinos de Gaza para transformar el enclave en la "Riviera de Oriente Medio" para los ricos!). Esto dificulta enormemente la "normalización" de los regímenes árabes con Israel, no porque a sus líderes les importe el pueblo palestino, sino porque temen la indignación y la rebelión de su población en tal caso.

 

Si Estados Unidos o Israel declaran la guerra a Irán, la situación podría fácilmente descontrolarse. En tal caso, Irán podría atacar bases militares estadounidenses en la región y detener el comercio marítimo en el Estrecho de Ormuz. Tal desarrollo tendría consecuencias devastadoras para Estados Unidos, así como para la economía capitalista mundial, ya que el Estrecho representa casi el 30% del comercio mundial de petróleo. Es por esta razón que la mayoría de los regímenes árabes instan a Estados Unidos a abstenerse de una guerra contra Irán.

 

No son solo estos intereses contradictorios del imperialismo estadounidense los que podrían obligar a la Administración Trump a reconsiderar sus planes de guerra contra Irán. Otros factores son la dinámica impredecible de la agitación política en Israel, que podría resultar en la caída del "Rey Bibi" y la llegada al poder de un nuevo gobierno que podría centrarse más en resolver su crisis interna que en librar una guerra tras otra. Además, la heroica resistencia del pueblo palestino y la situación no resuelta de los rehenes, así como la reacción del mundo árabe al expansionismo israelí, podrían generar nuevos acontecimientos que podrían influir en los planes de Estados Unidos para Oriente Medio.

 

 

 

Tácticas socialistas

 

 

 

Como la Corriente Comunista Revolucionaria Internacional (CCRI) ha explicado repetidamente, en caso de una guerra entre Estados Unidos y/o Israel contra Irán, los socialistas no deben permanecer neutrales. Deben ponerse del lado de Irán y exigir la derrota de los imperialistas.

 

Asimismo, rechazamos la exigencia de Israel de seguir siendo la única potencia nuclear en Oriente Medio. Por lo tanto, defendemos el derecho de Irán a construir armas nucleares para disuadir la agresión sionista y estadounidense.

 

No lo hacemos por simpatía política hacia el régimen de los mulás en Teherán. Se trata de una dictadura capitalista reaccionaria que oprime a los trabajadores, las mujeres y las minorías nacionales. Además, también contribuyó a la tiranía de Assad para masacrar al pueblo sirio. Por ello, la CCRI siempre ha apoyado las protestas masivas en Irán, así como la lucha de liberación del pueblo sirio contra Assad y sus amos rusos y persas. Por todas estas razones, no brindamos ningún apoyo político al régimen de los mulás; solo apoyamos sus actividades militares en Oriente Medio en la medida en que estén dirigidas contra Israel y los imperialistas occidentales. Asimismo, seguimos apoyando la resistencia de las masas populares en Irán. ^[5]

 

En las condiciones actuales, una victoria militar de Estados Unidos e Israel fortalecería su dominio en Oriente Medio. Incentivaría la agresión sionista contra el pueblo palestino, contra Siria, contra el Líbano, etc. Por otro lado, si Estados Unidos e Israel fracasan en su campaña bélica contra Irán, debilitaría a estos enemigos imperialistas, provocaría crisis internas en estos países e inspiraría la resistencia popular contra los invasores sionistas.

 

Por la misma razón, la CCRI se alinea incondicionalmente con la lucha de Ansar Allah (a menudo llamados hutíes) contra los imperialistas sin brindar apoyo político a sus líderes. ^[6]

 

Finalmente, reiteramos nuestro continuo apoyo a la heroica resistencia palestina ante la renovada guerra genocida en Gaza. ^[7] Llamamos a una campaña de boicot popular contra Israel y sus partidarios. ¡Abajo el estado colono sionista! ¡Por una Palestina libre y roja desde el río hasta el mar! ^[8]
