Mexico: Campaign against the Construction of the New International Airport

Note of the Editorial Board: Below we publish a brief statement of Agrupación de Lucha Socialista, the Mexican Section of the RCIT, calling for international support for the popular struggle against the building of the New International Airport in Mexico City. Naturally, we fully support this call.

As Agrupación de Lucha Socialista (ALS) we constitute, jointly with the Colectivo Acción y Resistencia (CAR), brigades of youth, students and workers in the subway which is informing the people about the consequences of the construction of the New International Airport (NAICM).

The state has planed to build this capitalist megaproject in the east region of the Metropolitan Zone of México since 2001. However, it was forced to make a step back because of the combative resistance of the indigenous and peasants’ communities defending their lands and natural resources.

We call the social movements and political organizations all around the world to join the campaign #YoPrefieroelLago and to express an international solidarity with the Mexican people (e.g. meetings at embassies, posters and pictures, statements, etc.). Our people is fighting for defend the life and the nature against the capitalist projects of dispossession and death!
